Optimal sizing of the wind farm and wind farm transformer using MILP and dynamic transformer rating

An increase in electricity demand and renewable penetration requires electrical utilities to improve optimize the grid infrastructure. Fundamental components this infrastructure are transformers, which designed conservatively based on static rated power. However, load weather change continuously hence, transformers not used most efficiently. For reason, new technology has been developed: Dynamic transformer rating (DTR). Applying DTR makes it possible above nameplate without affecting their lifetime expectancy. This study uses for short-term long-term wind farm planning. The optimal is by applying power using as an input a Mixed-Integer Linear Programming (MILP) model. Regarding thermal analysis, linearized top oil model of IEEE Clause 7 selected. executed 4 different types transformers: 63 MVA, 100 200 MVA 400 MVA. As result, obtained that net present value investment capacity linearly with respect size transformer. Then, sensitivity analysis carried out modifying speed, price, selected data. From conclude resources price critical parameters farm’s feasibility.
